Frequently Asked Questions

How does chiropractic work?

Chiropractic restores and maintains health by aiding your nervous system in functioning without          interference.  The chiropractic adjustment gently removes stress on the spinal cord and nerves         allowing your body to function at its best.

What causes interference with my nervous system?

Your spine acts like a fuse box.  When you are under stress of any kind (i.e. physical, mental,             emotional, or chemical), one or more of the vertebrae in your spine may move slightly out of place
causing pressure on the nerves as they exit the spine.  This is called a subluxation.

How do I know if I have any subluxations?

Most people do not know they have subluxations until they have been present for some time.
While nerves transmit information about pain, they are responsible for many other functions
(sensation, organ function, breathing, etc.).  A subluxation can interfere with many body functions     before it can be felt.

Is chiropractic safe?

Chiropractic care is among the safest forms of health care.  No one has done more research on
health care safety than the medical malpractice insurance industry.  Premiums for medical doctors,
depending on specialty, can run 25 -100 times the cost of premiums for chiropractors.

What is Wellness Care?

Wellness care is a plan of regular chiropractic care as a means of keeping your body functioning at
its best and managing stress.  Similar to regular dental checkups, it is important to ensure that
your spine is free of interference.  A wellness plan can vary from 1 visit per week to 1 visit every 2
months, depending on your level of stress.

If I go once, do I have to go forever?

For many people, chiropractic care will begin with the restoration of health after some sort of
injury, ache or pain.  These symptoms will go away during the initial phase of chiropractic.  It is at
this point where a decision must be made.  A wellness plan can be started as a way to keep your
body strong and avoid future injury.  On the other hand, care can be terminated leaving you at a
place without symptoms but somewhat vulnerable to future episodes.  In my experience, wellness
care is significantly easier than sporadic symptomatic care.

Can I see a chiropractor if I'm pregnant?

Pregnancy is a wonderful yet physically and emotionally stressful time for a woman.  It is also a time
when chiropractic care becomes an even more crucial part of health.  Having a nervous system
free of interference is critical in dealing with the waves of changes that happen in the body during
this time.  The chiropractic adjustment will be altered slightly to ensure comfort.

Do children need to see a chiropractor?

Children have nervous systems just like adults and while their life stresses may be a little different, it is still very important for children's bodies to be functioning at their best.  Most children love to be adjusted and become sick much less often.
